Crowns & Bridges to Restore Your Smile

A strong, healthy smile can go a long way in boosting your confidence. Unfortunately, many people struggle with dental issues that affect the appearance of their teeth, such as cracks or damage caused by trauma, decay or spaces left by missing teeth.

To address these issues, your dentist may recommend the use of dental crowns and bridges. Crowns and bridges are both common types of restorative dental treatments that can help address issues affecting the appearance and function of your smile.

Along with helping to maintain your natural facial shape, they can fill in gaps and spaces left by missing teeth. This can help to improve your ability to speak as well as help you chew better, leading to better digestion.

Contact our team at Richmond Village Dental to learn more about crowns and bridges, and whether they may be right for you.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are hollow, artificial teeth that are placed over teeth to restore their original shape, size and colour. They help strengthen and change the appearance of a broken tooth that may otherwise be lost. Crowns are also commonly used as the final step in the restoration process following treatment for tooth damage or decay.

Dental crowns are typically made from materials like porcelain, metal or a combination of both. The crown is custom-made to fit over the remaining portion of the tooth, providing strength. With proper dental care, you can expect this restoration to last 10 or more years.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a natural-looking restoration that 'bridges' a gap of missing teeth in your mouth. Made up of one or more artificial teeth, the bridge is affixed to the teeth on either side of the gap to fill the space.

When you have a missing tooth, the remaining teeth may shift toward the space. Dental bridges can prevent this from happening. Additionally, a dental bridge can improve your ability to chew and speak properly and restore the natural appearance of your smile.
